Nigerian forward Victor Boniface has revealed he once exchanged words with legendary manager José Mourinho before AS Roma’s crushing 6–1 loss to Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Conference League.

The Super Eagles striker, who was then playing for the Norwegian side, recalled how Mourinho marveled at the freezing conditions in Bodø ahead of the October 21, 2021 clash.

“Mourinho came to the pitch, walked inside, took his phone, recorded everything and posted: ‘This is the situation, we’re about to play, very cold,’” Boniface told The CultureLeague Podcast.

Boniface said he cheekily replied to the Portuguese coach’s post at the time: “I commented on that same post because I didn’t know I’d be at this level today. I said to him, ‘You never see anything.’”

Roma went on to suffer one of the worst defeats in Mourinho’s managerial career as the Norwegian underdogs stunned them with six goals. Boniface, however, missed the historic encounter due to a cruciate ligament injury.

The Bayer Leverkusen star also described Bodø/Glimt as “one of the coldest places in the world,” noting that the icy conditions posed a major challenge for visiting professionals.
