Victor Boniface delivered another stellar performance for Bayer Leverkusen, scoring the decisive goal in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Wolfsburg. The Super Eagles striker has been in remarkable form this season, having netted a brace in last week’s 4-1 win against Hoffenheim.
In their latest match, Bayer Leverkusen faced an uphill battle after falling behind early to a goal from Nordi Mukiele just five minutes in. However, the reigning Bundesliga champions quickly regrouped, with Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Tah scoring in the 14th and 32nd minutes, respectively. Despite this resurgence, Wolfsburg responded with goals from Sebastiaan Bornauw and Mattias Svanberg, ending the first half 3-2 in their favor.
Leverkusen came out strong in the second half, with Piero Hincapie leveling the score early on. Coach Xabi Alonso brought Boniface on for Patrik Schick in the 68th minute, and the striker immediately made an impact, creating more opportunities for his team. Although he was denied a goal in the 77th minute by a save, Boniface continued to pressure the Wolfsburg defense.
The match took a pivotal turn in the 88th minute when Yannick Gerhardt was sent off, leaving Wolfsburg with ten men. Seizing the advantage, Leverkusen ramped up the pressure, and it paid off. A cross from the right found Wirtz, whose weak shot was pounced on by Boniface, who scored from close range, sealing the comeback victory at 4-3.
This performance underscores Boniface’s crucial role in Leverkusen’s attack as they look to build on their success in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
