BRAZIL CONSIDERING ZINEDINE ZIDANE FOR HEAD COACH JOB: REPORT

Brazil is on the lookout for a replacement for former head coach Tite, who stepped down following the Selecao’s quarterfinal defeat from the FIFA World Cup 2022. Zinedine Zidane, France’s World Cup hero in 1998, is the most recent contender to be connected to the role.

According to the French publication L’Equipe, Brazil has expressed interest in Zidane, the former Real Madrid coach who has also been considered for the top post in France.

After Carlo Ancelotti, the current Real Madrid coach, and Jose Mourinho, the AS Roma coach, Zidane is the fifth coach to be linked to the Brazil post. Other candidates for the position include Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, and Rafael Benitez.

The Brazilian Football Federation, according to the publication, is looking for a foreign coach after failing to go past the quarterfinal round in two consecutive World Cups in Russia and Qatar. Since winning the World Cup in 2002, Brazil has only made it to the final four once, in the 2014 home World Cup.

Zidane is presently a free agent after leaving Real Madrid in May 2021. He has long been regarded as the heir to France coach Didier Deschamps, who has been in charge since 2012. Zidane was also linked to Manchester United before the club hired Erik ten Hag as manager.

Zidane coached Real Madrid to three consecutive Champions League and two LaLiga victories.
