The Department of State Services (DSS) is reportedly planning to arrest Fisayo Soyombo, founder and editor-in-chief of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ). According to an anonymous security official, the DSS is actively tracking his location, and an arrest could occur at any moment.
While the specific reasons for the DSS’s interest in Soyombo are unclear, it is speculated to be linked to his investigative journalism, particularly his recent undercover report on smuggling and arms trafficking in Nigeria, which implicated high-ranking officials. Additionally, Soyombo’s critical commentary on social media regarding the DSS may have raised further scrutiny from the agency.
Soyombo has faced legal challenges in the past, including detentions by the police and accusations from the Nigerian Army. His investigative work often highlights issues of corruption and abuse within the government and security agencies.
