Security operatives have taken control of the palace of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, amid rumors of the monarch’s death.
Both Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Police Force (NPF) personnel have been deployed to the palace, with reports indicating that the palace gates have been secured by these officials.
Oba Aromolaran, who is 87 years old, has reigned for 42 years. According to *The Nation*, he had been receiving treatment at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex in Ile-Ife, Osun State, until Wednesday. Sources within the palace have confirmed that the monarch passed away on Wednesday.
A family member, speaking on condition of anonymity, shared, “We are in mourning and have chosen not to take calls from outsiders, though I’m speaking with you now. We are currently moving the king’s personal belongings out of the palace.”
Additionally, a security source confirmed, “Both the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken over the palace, and the gates have been locked.”
