The Nigerian government has confirmed the suspension of the October monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) revenue payment to Rivers State, escalating tensions between Governor Simi Fubara and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), exclusively revealed the development to journalists on Friday.
While the government recently approved N1.1411 trillion for October 2024 FAAC disbursement across federal, state, and local councils, Rivers State’s allocation was withheld due to a court injunction barring the Central Bank of Nigeria and federal authorities from processing the payment.
Mokwa affirmed the government’s commitment to respecting the court order, stating, “We are going to follow due diligence as long as there is no contrary order.”
As of the report’s filing, the October allocation had yet to be disbursed to any state, with the OAGF continuing to process the payments. Rivers State’s share, however, remains in limbo, awaiting further legal clarification.
