The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has detained Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives for Aba North and South Federal Constituency, following an alleged assault on a driver in Abuja. Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirmed that Ikwechegh is currently at the Maitama Police Station for questioning.

According to a statement from the police, the incident was reported by Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya, who claimed that the altercation occurred while he was delivering a package to Ikwechegh. The dispute reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation.

The FCT Police Command expressed serious concern over Ikwechegh’s dismissive response to law enforcement during the incident. After allegedly slapping Abuwatseya, he reportedly stated, “You can go ahead and call the Inspector General of Police,” which reflects a concerning disregard for police authority.

Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. The police reiterated their commitment to conducting an impartial investigation and ensuring justice, stating that appropriate legal action will be taken upon completion of the inquiry.
