Babatunji Wusu –
At a pivotal stakeholders meeting in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, the Labour Party (LP) made a significant move by appointing Senator Esther Nenadi Usman as the Chair of its newly formed Caretaker Committee. Usman, who previously served as the Minister of Finance and represented Kaduna South in the Senate from 2011 to 2015, will lead the 29-member committee.
Joining her in this crucial role is Senator Darlington Nwokocha from Abia Central, who will serve as the committee’s Secretary. The team has been given 90 days to tackle the party’s current leadership challenges and to organize a convention that will elect new leaders from the Ward level up to the national stage.
The meeting, which was notably attended by prominent figures including the party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, his running mate Datti Ahmed, Senator Victor Umeh, and Rhodes-Vivour, the LP’s governorship candidate for Lagos State, was hosted by Governor Alex Otti.
