Babatunji Wusu –
Residents in ire at President Bola Tinubu’s involvement in the political unrest roiling the state have stormed the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt.
Additionally, the rally is in support of Siminilayi Fubara, the state governor.
Students, young people, labor unions, civil society organizations, and Hausa residents of the state are among the demonstrators.
As early as seven in the morning, they took over the Government House on Azikiwe Road in Port Harcourt.
The demonstrators were still assembling when this story was filed, and some of them had set up canopies at the entrance to Government House.
This occurs a few days after Fubara met in Aso Villa with President Tinubu, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and other Rivers stakeholders.
Wike, Fubara, and a few others signed an agreement to put an end to their rivalry at the meeting, which was scheduled to end the political situation in the state.
One of the decisions made following the conference was to immediately abandon all impeachment procedures against Governor Fubara that the State House of Assembly had started.
A decision was reached mandating the immediate reinstatement of all staff members’ salaries and benefits in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Furthermore, any cases that Governor Fubara and his team filed with the court will be promptly dropped, and the governor will no longer tamper with the State Assembly’s complete funding.
The recognition of Martin Amaewhule’s leadership of the Rivers Assembly and the 27 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who resigned was another resolution that was passed at the meeting.
Furthermore, it was decided that the Rivers State House of Assembly would be free to select its own location for meetings and to carry out legislative work without intervention or obstruction from the Executive branch of government.
