Babatunji Wusu –

On Friday, the Supreme Court formally recognized Uba Sani as the legitimate victor of the Kaduna State governorship election that took place on March 18.

The court’s decision upheld a previous decision made by the Abuja court of appeals, which had proclaimed Sani the governor of Kaduna State on November 24, 2023.
Mohammed Ashiru Isa, the governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had contested the results of the state’s March 18 governorship election.

They maintained that corrupt acts and a failure to adhere to the terms of the Electoral Act 2022 rendered the election void and that Uba was not legitimately elected by the majority of legal votes cast.

Justice Tijani Abubakar, however, concluded that the appellant had nothing pertinent to ask this court upon reading the lead judgment.

He maintained the ruling of the lower courts, upholding the governor’s election, on the grounds that the appeal is frivolous, vexatious, and without merit.
