Prof. Joseph Albasu Kunini, Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, has resigned.

Kunini resigned from his position as a member of the House of Representatives on Wednesday for personal reasons.

“I write to transmit my letter of resignation as Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly,” the letter stated.

“I am resigning for personal reasons. “I would like to thank the honorable members for their support and cooperation while I served as speaker of this august house,” it said.

The house unanimously nominated Hon. Kizito Bonzina, a member from the Zing state constituency, as the next speaker after the resignation letter was read by the deputy speaker, Hon. Hamman Adama.

The new House Speaker has been in office since 2007.

Kunini was elected speaker in December 2019 following the departure of the previous speaker, Hon. Abel Peter Dish.

Bonzina responded by thanking members for considering him worthy of the position of House Leader.

He indicated that members of the house had no issues with the resigned speaker, and he committed to work in harmony with all members to ensure Taraba state’s progress.
