Babatunji Wusu –

The Appeal Court in Abuja has reinstated Timipre Sylva as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the governorship election in Bayelsa State on November 11.

On Tuesday, the Appeal Court approved Sylva’s appeal against the earlier High Court judgment that had removed him from the race.

A three-person appellate court panel ruled on Tuesday, October 31, that the Federal High Court in Abuja lacked jurisdiction to hear and decide the petition submitted by Demesuoyefa Kolomo, who identified himself as a registered voter and APC member.

According to the appellate court, Kolomo was not a candidate for the APC gubernatorial ticket and hence lacks locus standi to bring the complaint against Sylva’s nomination.

Sylva was also given N1 million in costs by the court.

The APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, commented on the development, writing via his X platform account that Sylva is back in the race.

“Sylva is back in the race for Bayelsa as the Court of Appeal upheld his appeal,” he said.
