The National song Bill 2024, which reinstates the previous song, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” has been approved by President Bola Tinubu.
Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, said this on Wednesday at a joint National Assembly session commemorating the Silver Jubilee of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic.
President Tinubu will not be speaking during the session since he must leave to inaugurate the Abuja metro line, according to Senate President Akpabio. The primary goal of the session is to introduce the new national anthem.
The law had already been approved in separate sessions by the Senate and the House of Representatives.
In 1978, the present national anthem, “Arise, O Compatriots,” took the place of the previous one, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”
Read the anthem below:
Nigeria we hail thee,
Our own dear native land,
Though tribe and tongue may differ,
In brotherhood we stand,
Nigerians all, and proud to serve
Our sovereign Motherland.
Our flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign,
In peace or battle honour’d,
And this we count as gain,
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain.
O God of all creation,
Grant this our one request,
Help us to build a nation
Where no man is oppressed,
And so with peace and plenty
Nigeria may be blessed.
