Due to the United States and United Kingdom governments’ security alerts on terrorism, British Airways had to postpone its London-Abuja flight BA83 by two days.
According to THE PREMIER NEWS, both the British and American governments have issued security alerts over the possibility of terrorist strikes in Nigeria, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory.
The airline has altered its Abuja flight schedule beginning on Sunday after canceling its flights on Friday and Saturday.
The airline explained the temporary schedule adjustment to/from Abuja from October 30 to November 7, 2022, in a memo sent to its business partners, as being “due to operational limitation.”
However, the airline announced that its London-Abuja flight would now leave at 08:10 and arrive at 15:15 instead of 22:25 and 4:40 as previously scheduled.
On Thursday, an unexpected Lagos detour was made for the BA83 flight from London-Heathrow to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The affected passengers were outraged by the development and complained that there hadn’t been enough notification.
Although BA did not give a justification for the choice, the flight’s detour may have something to do with the fact that several foreign embassies, including those of the US, UK, Australia, and Germany, among others, issued travel advisories to their residents in response to the Abuja terror alert.
For canceled flights BA83/28Oct and BA82/29Oct, the airline noted, “Please follow the BA regular cancellation criteria for rebooking of guests.”
