According to Naija News, a sad accident involving two BRT buses occurred on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway on Tuesday morning.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASEMA) reported the incident on its official X feed, uploading a video from the scene.
It was reported that the agency and security agents were on the scene to attend to the situation, which had a little impact on traffic flow.
“A serious accident occurred on the BRT corridor, just in front of Conoil at Valley Estate, on the Lagos Abeokuta Expressway, inward Ile Zik.”
Tuesday morning, LASEMA said on its Twitter page, “Effect of this occurrence on traffic is minimal, however, our officers, as well as all other concerned authorities, including men of the Nigerian Police Force, are on the ground doing the necessary.”
Lagos Government Issues ‘Vacation Order’ for Seven Days for Commercial Buses and Drivers
A seven-day “Vacation Order” has been issued, according to Naija News, to drivers of commercial buses and drivers of cars who operate on bridges throughout Lagos State.
The Lagos State Government announced the vacation order on Monday in an effort to get other drivers and commercial bus drivers—commonly referred to as “danfo drivers”—to stop jam-packing cars into bridges.
The state government’s effort to address violations impeding the free flow of traffic on bridges throughout the state, according to Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, included the directive.
Adebayo Taofiq, a spokesman for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), stated in a statement that Giwa had no right packing around on bridges because the state government had built bus terminals and garages for commercial activity in the state.
He claimed that despite numerous warnings, Danfo drivers had persisted in disobeying government directives and creating significant blockages along these bridges, which had a detrimental effect on both traffic and the structural stability of the bridges.
Every driver of a car or commercial bus operating along the “Apongbon” and “Idumota” (Cater) Bridges, “Elegbata,” “Ebute-Ero,” and “Ejalonibu” must urgently leave these areas because LASTMA will begin strict enforcement operations after this ultimatum expires until zero tolerance is achieved throughout the state.
