President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerian lawmakers to practice development politics in order to uphold the ideals of the late Olusola Saraki, the father of former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
This was remarked by Mr. Buhari, who was in attendance at the 10th memorial anniversary of Mr. Saraki in Abuja on Monday, in the person of Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State.
2012 saw the passing of Mr. Saraki, the Second Republic’s Senate President.
Saraki was a statesman from Nigeria who took part in the country’s political growth.
He is a politician who has won the admiration of many Nigerians. We value his contributions to our political system.
As Nigeria moves forward, Mr. Buhari stated, “I want to take this opportunity to implore my fellow politicians to learn from the lesson he has provided.”
Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, advised Nigerian politicians to uphold honesty and openness in all of their transactions.
The president-general of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, known as the sultan, asked Nigerian politicians to abstain from using violence in their electioneering for the general election scheduled for 2023.
He argued that elections should be fought on ideas rather than by force.
“Good leadership breeds good followership, and bad leadership breeds bad followership,” the saying goes.
“We want to implore those in positions of authority to constantly uphold the truth, be honest, be truthful, and be accountable because Allah, the Almighty, will question you.
Mr. Abubakar advised, “Campaign honestly, campaign like a gentleman, and persuade people to vote for you. When you receive the votes, discharge your responsibility to the best of your ability.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki asked politicians to make sacrifices that would improve Nigeria in a press conference with journalists following the ceremony.
He also exhorted his supporters to search for the traits needed to make Nigeria a great nation.
“We can currently do a lot better in Nigeria. My father’s lifestyle was all about the people. It involves making sacrifices. People from the APC, PDP, and other parties are all present, as you can see.
“This should give you a very clear message, and everyone leaving here should go with the conviction that we must act morally.
If elected, we must serve our people as leaders. Come February or March 2023, as followers, we must choose real leaders rather than the ones we are given on election day because, in the end, that will not improve the nation.
So I hope we all pray that February or March of the following year will be a chance to reconsider the course of this nation by electing the proper leaders, added Mr. Saraki.
Gbemisola Saraki, the minister of state for mines and steel development, said her late father had a strong commitment to the advancement of Nigeria and the health and well-being of its citizens.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Diri Duoye of Bayelsa State, and Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State were among the dignitaries present at the ceremony.
