President Muhammadu Buhari has authorized the use of cutting-edge technology to combat instability in the southeast.

Senator Hope Uzodinma, Governor of Imo State, announced this to State House media after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.

Governor Uzodimma said he was to the State House to see Buhari and ask him to sanction the tech deployment so that the area could deal with the threat adequately.

He claims that, with the president’s agreement, advanced monitoring equipment will be supplied to the region soon, enhancing the fight against insecurity while causing no collateral damage.

The Governor also stated that he was in the capital to thank President Obama for what he has done for the region, including the recent conversion of the Federal Medical Center Owerri to a University Teaching Hospital for the Federal University of Technology and the approval that converted Alvan Ikoku College of Education to a Federal College of Education.

He said he came to meet the president on behalf of his people, adding stated it was “also thank him for the many supports he offered to us during this our period of security issues and the help, he’s also given to us in terms of the various approval.

“The approval to transform Federal Medical Center Owerri to a university teaching hospital for the Federal University of Technology, as well as the approval to convert Alvan Ikoku College of Education to a federal college of education,” he stated.

“Only two weeks ago, Igbos that came home from Lagos and outside South East felt the advantage of the second Niger Bridge something that is deserving of applause.

“I also appealed to him for more cooperation, to support us with some technical deployments; we have planned to be able to undertake an advanced kind of security control in the South East. And he has given his approval as well.

“And we’ll be obtaining some surveillance equipment and contemporary technologies soon to help us manage security so that we can battle crime with little or no collateral damage to the environment.”

“Well, my people are eager and dedicated Nigerians, and we believe in the unity of the country,” he said of Imo State in the New Year. And we feel that in order for us to grow as a people, we need the federal government’s help and cooperation, which I have always advocated for. As a result, I am confident that 2023 will outperform 2022. And the amount of progress seen from 2020 to 2022 will be increased.

“And my people have seen quite a bit. If you go to the South East, for example, in Imo State, we got Mr. President’s approval, which has now enabled the government of Imo to partner with the Nigerian navy to dredge the Oguta River to the sea, opening up that maritime route, then if there is a naval base, that we will now manage and control, pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft, and all forms of criminality that have besieged that area for a very long time. And crime has decreased dramatically since the Navel base was constructed.

“So I think we have hope for a better Nigeria. Mr. President has approved that the Imo state government be reimbursed for the road that we recently finished and was commissioned by him, the Owerri to Orlu dualised expressway.

“The good news is that I come to Mr. President every day with one positive approval or the other. So our staff are content, we’re dedicated, we’re content, and we’ve never had it so nice. As a result, I will continue to tell you that the APC is the party to beat in my state.

“Those who oppose me in my state are not claiming that we are not working. They are not denying that we are developing the property. They are not accusing us of being corrupt. All they’re saying is that they’re concocting insecurity out of desperation and then blaming it on a government.

“I’ve seen at the subnational level how vital security measures are administered and overseen by the federal government. So I cannot be blamed for insecurity since Imo state cannot be singled out. National security concerns the Federation’s 36 states and the FCT.

“So, I think we did really well. And I’m confident that, with the grace of God, as soon as we’re able to nullify the security, we’ll have an environment that we can all enjoy and be delighted with.

“During this season, we experienced relative quiet in Imo state, and Christmas is a very significant moment for us, as is the new year. And, with the exception of a few scuffs in the hinterland, we are presently in control of the security situation in Imo state.”
