The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alh. Atiku Abubakar and the chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus have been warned to play their politics with modicum of decency without degrading the person of the president and the office he occupies.

The APC Vote Monitor Volunteers (AVMV) stated this while reacting to comments made by the two PDP leaders at its special National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja where the duo described President Muhammadu Buhari as power monger and blood thirsty.

A statement issued on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the political group, Mr. Kazeem Jokanola said the outburst by the two PDP leaders were petty and unnecessary.‎

“It is sad that the PDP presidential candidate who once served as the Vice President of this country and one who is aspiring to occupy the higher one would stoop this low in his desperation to hoodwink electorate to disclaim the democratic pedigree of the President to score cheap political point.

Jokanola said; “it is shameful that the PDP Chairman does not even remember how the government headed by his party in the past handled many killings during its terrible reign. Nigerians saw a government under the PDP that does not care about lives.”

He wondered how a president who was fiercely opposed with such unprecedented security challenges, most of which were politically orchestrated, and whose government has been responding by protecting more lives than previous governments could be so described by Secondus.

The group warned the PDP chieftains to be mindful of such utterances against the person and the referred office of the President of the Federal republic of Nigeria currently being occupied by President Buhari.

“Obviously, the PDP flagbearer and their chairman are displaying frustrations and one can sympathise with them, sensing the inevitability of the defeat looming before them on Saturday, hence this resort to desecrate the highest office in the country. ‎

He said the opposition party should stop giving false assurances that electoral violence peddlers and ballot box snatchers would go unpunished.

Jokanola assured that the security agencies would protect lives of Nigerians but warned that election riggers and ballot box snatchers who want to force their way by foisting unpopular choices on the people should steer clear of voting booths of face the wrath of the law.

“The PDP Chairman who boasted that his party was not interested in snatching ballot boxes should be reechoing the warning made by the President if they have no sinister motives.

“Why is the PDP afraid as if it is only by hijacking ballot boxes and writing figures as usual was all it had to win the elections? If they have said they were not ballot box snatchers then, they should be on the same page with the President and walk the talk by staying away from snatching ballot boxes and other electoral offenses,” Jokanola stressed.

On the protection of life, the spokesperson said the PDP needed to be reminded that President Buhari has the record of responding positively and better to unfortunate killings across the country than previous administrations before him.
