Festus Keyamo, the spokesperson for the presidential campaign council of All Progressives Congress presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has stated that the inflation rate under President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) is not the highest in the country’s history.
On Monday’s Arise TV morning show, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria was responding to questions about what Buhari’s legacy Tinubu would build on in terms of economy and security, among other things, if elected president in the upcoming elections.
Keyamo claimed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration had the highest inflation rate, with Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar serving as his Vice President.
“This is not the highest rate of inflation. In 2005, we had a 28% inflation rate under Obasanjo and Atiku. We had the highest under Obasanjo and Atiku,” Keyamo said.
According to Tradingeconomics.com and a chart on the Central Bank of Nigeria’s website, Nigeria’s annual inflation rate accelerated for the tenth consecutive month in November 2022, reaching 21.47%.
