Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has sworn in two commissioners, one permanent secretary and 17 newly elected local government chairmen.

Buni administered the oaths of office on Thursday in Damaturu, urging the new officials to put public interest before personal gain and justify the confidence placed in them.

The governor called on the appointees to support his administration’s reform agenda, which he said had improved governance and service delivery across Yobe State.

Highlighting progress in the health sector, Buni said investments and institutional reforms had helped modernise healthcare services in the state.

He cited successful procedures at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital and Damaturu Specialist Hospital as evidence of the improvements. These included a total hip replacement and a major maxillofacial surgery, which he said were previously available only in a few advanced hospitals and developed countries.

Buni also announced that the West African College of Physicians had granted full accreditation to the Department of Community Medicine at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital for postgraduate residency training.

He added that the West African College of Surgeons had approved the Damaturu Specialist Hospital for postgraduate training of resident doctors in obstetrics and gynaecology.

“Alhamdulillah, Yobe State is truly moving. I salute the courage, resilience and commitment of our civil servants. You definitely make us proud,” Buni declared.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to improving residents’ welfare and reminded the newly elected council chairmen that they won their positions under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He urged them to work towards the party’s success in the forthcoming general elections.

Those sworn in included Dr Abubakar Kagu, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice; Dauda Alhaji Idi, Commissioner for Livestock Development; and Fatima Makintami, Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice.
