At least 32 Cameroon U-17 team players failed MRI screening to confirm their age. According to the BBC, the test was ordered by Cameroonian FA President Samuel Eto.
The MRI screening is a scan of the players’ bone density to determine their true age. The majority of players selected for this year’s UNIFACC tournament were disqualified after failing MRI tests.
According to the Daily Mail, the tests are used to determine a player’s age by scanning their wrists and measuring bone growth. 21 players failed the test out of the initial squad of 30 who camped in Mbankomo, Yaounde.
Another 11 players failed the scan, which was performed as recently as Tuesday. The team’s coach, Jean Pierre Fiala, is faced with the dilemma of assembling a squad ahead of the upcoming Central African Football Federations’ Union (UNIFFAC) qualifiers for the 2023 CAF U-17 championship.
