Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, and his family can live without government assistance, according to the Obi-Datti Media Campaign Office, but Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), and his family cannot.
This was said by the campaign office in a statement on Tuesday in response to a statement made by Festus Keyamo SAN, the spokesperson for the APC presidential campaign.
Keyamo taunted Obi’s son to organize a successful campaign event for his father in Anambra that was comparable to the one Seyi, Tinubu’s son, organized for his father in Lagos.
Campaign office takes on Keyamo: Unlike Tinubu, Obi’s family can exist without government favoritism
The Obi-Datti Media Campaign office said in a statement that Keyamo shouldn’t draw such superficial comparisons.
“The only similarity between Obi and Tinubu is that both of them previously served as state governors in Nigeria.
For Keyamo and his fellow hirelings, this claim is verifiable.
“If Keyamo had taken the time to thoroughly research the family he represents for, he would have avoided making this comparison that is sure to reveal the details of his Principal’s life and would have known why the whole family is throwing themselves into the campaign.
“The other time, Senator Remi, Tinubu’s wife, was threatening fire and brimstone over Lagos, and now the son and daughter are flaunting with a rally.
“Are you going to condemn folks for trying to maintain a family business?
“Obi’s family is not a political constituent. They are living their lives and advancing society without ever touching any public monies.
Because they hardly survive without government support, the Obi-Datti Media office also observed that Tinubu’s wife and some First Ladies flew on official government aircraft to campaign stops.
“Peter Obi, the LP candidate, is the only member of his family seeking the mandate of the Nigerian people to serve as President. He has emphasized numerous times that Nigerians must reject anyone wishing to serve as President pro tempore.
“We therefore join our candidate in demanding that candidates seek the votes of the people, not their spouses, sons, or daughters, and that the people examine them.
When we are unable to distinguish between family and private funds and a senior minister of the Republic is defending and applauding it, it is dangerous and unsettling.
But that is precisely what young Nigerians with the Obidient Movement are attempting to stop with their “take back Nigeria” slogan.
