Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, has revealed that the players “rallied around” Mason Mount, following his penalty miss against Tottenham Hotspur.
Mount hit the post in the shootout, as the Blues were eliminated by Spurs from the Carabao Cup.
Jose Mourinho’s side advanced to to the quarter-final, where they will face Stoke City.
Chelsea had led 1-0 through a goal from Timo Werner, before a late Erik Lamela strike forced a shootout, which Spurs won.
Mount came in for some heavy criticism after missing the spot kick, with former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf describing his performance as “awful”.
But Lampard says that those within the squad have been nothing but supportive of the midfielder.
“Everybody rallied around Mason as they would do around anyone in the squad,” Lampard said ahead of their Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.
