The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has urged the graduating cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) to ready themselves for the critical responsibilities of defending the nation. He stressed that the expectations placed on the Armed Forces are high, and the cadets must meet the challenges posed by contemporary security issues.
Air Marshal Abubakar delivered this message during the NDA 2024 ‘Beating of the Retreat’ and Prize Giving Ceremony held on September 18 at the NDA Parade Ground in Afaka. The event celebrated the achievements of cadets from the 71 Regular Course and Direct Short Service Courses 28 Army and 32 Air Force.
He encouraged the cadets to demonstrate not only bravery on the battlefield but also to master the modern technologies that are reshaping warfare. He reminded them that the military has invested significant resources in their training, focusing on both character development and academic preparation to equip them for future challenges.
“As you prepare to be commissioned as officers, remember that the hopes and aspirations of our country rest on your shoulders. It is time to ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country,” the CAS stated. He emphasized the importance of integrity, loyalty, and courage in their service.
In his closing remarks, Air Marshal Abubakar praised the Commandant and staff of the NDA for upholding the tradition of the Beating of the Retreat, marking the end of the training year. He congratulated the award-winning cadets and battalions, encouraging them to continue their pursuit of excellence.
