The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has assured citizens of Edo State that the upcoming governorship election on Saturday will be conducted fairly and without violence. He emphasized that President Bola Tinubu has instructed security agencies to ensure that the people have the freedom to choose their next governor.

During a visit to Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, General Musa stressed that elections should not be treated as conflicts. He urged politicians to adhere to the rule of law and respect citizens’ rights to elect their preferred candidates.

“We have observed how other countries manage peaceful elections while their citizens go about their daily activities. I wonder why our situation appears different. I assure you that the armed forces are here to support a peaceful electoral process. Our mandate from Mr. President is to ensure that the election is free, fair, and credible, and we are committed to that,” General Musa stated.

He added, “We are also here to evaluate our troops and ensure they understand the significance of conducting free and credible elections. No one should take sides; it is the people’s choice that matters, not an imposition. I can guarantee that the days of impunity are over. Elections should not resemble warfare; no one should lose their life simply for wanting to vote for their preferred candidate.”
