Chelsea endured a painful night at Stamford Bridge, falling 3-1 to a much-changed Nottingham Forest side in the Premier League defeat that ended any realistic hope of a top-five finish. The result leaves Chelsea in a worrying run, marking their sixth straight loss in the league.
Forest struck almost immediately, with Taiwo Awoniyi heading home inside two minutes to silence the home crowd. Igor Jesus extended the lead from the penalty spot in the 15th minute, putting Chelsea under early pressure. Just before half-time, Cole Palmer missed a chance to respond when his penalty was saved, compounding Chelsea’s struggles in this damaging Premier League defeat.
The match also saw worrying injury moments. Young winger Jesse Shaun Derry suffered a head injury after a clash with Zach Abbott and was taken to hospital. Later, Robert Sanchez and Morgan Gibbs-White both received treatment for head knocks but managed to walk off.
Forest remained sharp after the break, and Awoniyi struck again in the 52nd minute with a well-taken counter-attacking goal. Chelsea pushed late, and Joao Pedro produced a brilliant overhead kick in stoppage time, but it came too late to influence the outcome.
Despite resting key players ahead of their Europa League semi-final clash with Aston Villa, Forest delivered a composed display. Meanwhile, Chelsea must quickly address their form after another heavy Premier League defeat.
What changes must Chelsea make to recover from this alarming run?
