A 29-year-old Chinese national named Gang Deng was given a five-year prison term by a Federal High Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, for offenses involving illicit mining and unlawful mineral possession.

Agents from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission appeared in court to present Deng, who was detained in September 2022, with an accusation (EFCC).

Along with Sinuo Xinyang Nigeria, he was charged with offenses including the illicit possession of solid minerals.

The anti-graft organization claims that the prisoner was discovered with a truckload of minerals that were perhaps lepidolite.

The court, Muhammed Sani, gave Deng a five-year prison term with a N1 million fine as an alternative. He also directed the federal authorities to receive the 25 tonnes of the mineral that had been taken from him.
