The Comprehensive High School, Ilutitun Old Students’ Association is set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Comprehensive High School, Ilutitun, with a week-long Golden Jubilee programme designed to celebrate the institution’s five decades of academic development while mobilising support for its continued growth.
The anniversary, scheduled for September 28 to October 4, 2026, will bring together generations of old students, current students, teachers, parents, community leaders, traditional institutions, government representatives and friends of the school to reflect on its journey and contributions to education in Ilutitun and neighbouring communities.
Established five decades ago, Comprehensive High School, Ilutitun has over the years produced graduates who have gone on to distinguish themselves across different professions and contribute to the development of their communities and the country.
The old students’ association said the Golden Jubilee is therefore intended to go beyond a celebration of the school’s history, with several activities planned to strengthen relationships among stakeholders and contribute directly to the development of the institution.
The programme will open with environmental sanitation, tagged “Operation Let the Forest Fall,” as the association seeks to encourage community participation and promote a cleaner environment around the school and its host community.
Other activities lined up for the celebration include a football match, tree and flower planting, a health talk and the CHS @ 50 Lecture, which will provide an opportunity for participants to reflect on the school’s history, achievements and the future of education.
Teachers at the school are also expected to benefit from an Artificial Intelligence and Digital Training programme designed to expose them to emerging technologies and strengthen their capacity to adapt to the changing educational environment.
The Golden Jubilee programme will further feature an inter-school Quiz and Debate Competition, providing students with an opportunity to demonstrate their academic knowledge, critical thinking and communication skills.
Another major activity is the “Let’s See Ilutitun Again” Rally, which is expected to bring old students and other stakeholders into the community as part of the association’s efforts to reconnect members with their roots and celebrate the history of the institution.
The celebration will also feature a novelty football match between past and present students, appropriately tagged “The Old versus The New,” creating an opportunity for different generations connected to the school to interact and celebrate together.
One of the key highlights of the anniversary will be the dedication and commissioning for use of the newly built and fully furnished Legacy School Gate, alongside the CHSIOSA Corper’s Lodge. The projects form part of the alumni association’s contribution towards improving facilities and creating a more supportive environment for students and members of the National Youth Service Corps serving in the institution.
The anniversary will also feature awards to recognise individuals who have contributed to the growth and development of the school, as well as a fundraising and luncheon programme aimed at mobilising additional resources for the institution.
Speaking on the significance of the Golden Jubilee, Chairman of the Golden Jubilee Publicity Committee, Comrade Akinsuyi, said the anniversary represents a celebration of the school’s heritage, memories and achievements, while providing an opportunity to renew the commitment of stakeholders to its future.
According to her, the 50-year milestone is a testimony to the enduring value of education and the collective contributions of generations of teachers, students, parents, old students and other stakeholders who have played different roles in the development of Comprehensive High School, Ilutitun.
Akinsuyi, while corroborating the position of the President of the alumni association, High Chief Olusegun Netufo, called on members of the school community and other stakeholders to identify with the historic celebration and support the institution.
The Chairman and Co-Chairman of the anniversary fundraising and planning committee, Rev. Dr. Sunday Akingbelure and Dr. Olorunyomi Akinboyo, respectively, also appealed to members of the old students’ association and the general public to contribute meaningfully to the development of the school.
They said continued support from former students and other stakeholders would help the institution build on its achievements and provide better opportunities for current and future students.
The association said the Golden Jubilee also offers an opportunity for old students who have established themselves in different parts of the country and beyond to reconnect with one another and with the institution that played a role in their educational journey.
The final days of the celebration will feature the Golden Jubilee Dinner and Networking, bringing together alumni, school authorities, community leaders and other guests in a setting designed to strengthen relationships and discuss the future of the institution.
The week-long activities will be rounded off with a Thanksgiving Service on October 4 at the Cathedral of Ebenezer, Diocese on the Coast, Ilutitun-Osooro.
The Comprehensive High School, Ilutitun Old Students’ Association urged current and former students, parents, staff, traditional rulers, government representatives, community leaders and friends of the school to participate in the celebration.
The association said the success of the school over the past 50 years was a collective achievement and that its next chapter would similarly require the commitment of all stakeholders.
With the theme of celebrating the past while inspiring the future, the Golden Jubilee is expected to provide an opportunity for the Ilutitun community to honour the institution’s legacy while renewing efforts to strengthen the school for generations yet to come.
