The Coalition for Judicial Integrity and Accountability (CJIA) has dismissed allegations that Justice Emmanuel Agim of the Supreme Court accompanied Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to the University of Calabar (UNICAL) convocation on March 22, 2025.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, CJIA Executive Director Dr. Umaru Bako labeled the reports false and politically motivated, warning that such misinformation could undermine public confidence in the judiciary.

“It is deeply concerning that some elements are working tirelessly to discredit the judiciary by associating Supreme Court justices with politically exposed individuals,” Bako stated. “The facts are clear—Justice Agim attended the convocation as an award recipient, not as part of a political delegation.”

Bako further criticized the growing trend of politicizing judicial officers’ public appearances, stating that attempts to drag the judiciary into political conflicts threaten the integrity of Nigeria’s legal system.

CJIA emphasized that the judiciary remains a pillar of democracy, warning that no amount of blackmail should be allowed to diminish its credibility. The group also urged media outlets to verify information before publication, stressing that false narratives weaken democratic institutions.
