The Coalition of Human Rights Monitoring Group has exonerated Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, from allegations linking him to militant activities and security breaches that led to the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
In a report presented to journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, the group described the claims against Fubara as “politically motivated fabrications” aimed at destabilizing his administration.
The coalition’s investigation found no evidence of financial transactions or operational links between the state government and militant factions accused of pipeline vandalism and other security infractions. It noted that communities where the alleged incidents occurred have also denied any wrongdoing by the governor, maintaining that oil and gas installations remain secure.
The report further criticized the role of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, accusing him of fueling tensions in Rivers State through inflammatory remarks. It warned against the weaponization of baseless accusations for political gain, calling for an end to what it described as a dangerous pattern of democratic subversion in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“The attempt to malign Governor Fubara’s character through such claims is not only an attack on his personal integrity but also an affront to the democratic values that Nigeria professes to uphold,” the coalition stated.
It called for the immediate cessation of political hostilities, the withdrawal of unlawfully deployed security forces in Rivers, and an independent investigation into allegations of militancy.
Reaffirming Fubara’s commitment to peace, security, and governance, the coalition urged the international community and civil society groups to stand in defense of democracy and justice in Rivers State.
“The people of Rivers State deserve peace, stability, and development—not a manufactured crisis driven by political greed and ambition,” the group concluded.
