As he continues to recover from gallbladder surgery, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte will miss his team’s Premier League home game against West Ham United on Sunday.
Following Tuesday’s 1-0 Champions League loss by AC Milan to Tottenham, Conte has remained in Italy.
Tottenham confirmed in a statement that Antonio Conte would stay at his family home to continue and properly recover from his recent gallbladder surgery “after a regular post-operation check in Italy yesterday (Wednesday)”.
Everyone at the club wishes him well and stresses that his health comes first.
After having surgery 11 days prior, the 53-year-old was out for Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City, but he was back in the dugout for the team’s 4-1 defeat over Leicester City last weekend in the Premier League.
Conte said that he had miscalculated the complexity of his surgery, and his assistant Cristian Stellini will once more assume management of the first team.
He posted a statement on Instagram saying, “My huge feeling of responsibility towards the club, the players, the staff, and the fans brought me to anticipate my comeback on field.”
Unfortunately, I overestimated the surgery because it wasn’t a typical treatment but rather a sudden and serious emergency.
“My body has suffered from my impatience, and I must now halt until I have fully recovered. Anyone who is familiar with me is aware of how difficult this is for me, yet it is important. Hurry up, Spurs!
Tottenham has the option to extend Conte’s contract for one additional year until the end of June.
The Premier League’s fifth-place team is Tottenham.
