The Chief Imam of Ile-Ife, AbdulSemiu AbdulHammed, has urged Nigerians to be more fervent in prayers with trust in Almighty Allah for the total eradication of coronavirus pandemic.

AbdulHammed said this on Tuesday in the ancient city of Ile-Ife.

He recalled that diseases such as Small Pox, Lassa fever, Ebola, had surfaced years back and infected many, but with the power of Allah, they have become history today.

“So also, is COVID-19 pandemic, it has come and will surely go, in as much as we all put our trust in God and cooperate with government in adherence to the directive against the pandemic.

“Problem cannot enter into a city without the consent of God, so everything that is happening now, God knows about it.

“And if we diligently seek the face of the Lord, and pray diligently, He will surely hearken to our voice and make a way out for us,’’ the chief Imam said.

The cleric also admonished Nigerians to abide by the rules and regulations on COVID-19 prevention, such as the use of face mask, washing of hands with soap, using sanitizer, staying at home and social distancing, among others.

He said that though COVID-19 pandemic did not allow Muslims to observe congregational prayer to mark Eid-el-Fitri, the pandemic is for a while and not forever.

The Chief Imam therefor called on Muslim faithful to imbibe the lessons of Ramadan in their everyday life, in order to remain closer to almighty Allah.
