The South African Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize says that the government has recorded 6 new cases of coronavirus.
Mkhize confirmed the development in an announcement made, increasing the number of cases to 13.
The confirmed cases reportedly reside in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. All of the patients had recently travelled to Europe.
Mkhize disclosed that the confirmed cases include a 33-year-old woman who travelled to Italy and returned on 1 March, a couple; 34-year-old male and a 33-year-old female who travelled to Germany and returned to South Africa on 9 March, a 57-year-old man who travelled to Austria and Italy and returned to South Africa on 9 March.
Others include a 40-year-old male who travelled to Portugal and returned on 7 March, and a 36-year-old man who travelled to multiple countries, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Turkey before returning to South Africa on 9 March.
“All the patients have now been advised. Those who are symptomatic have started receiving treatment. Some of these patients are already in hospital while some, specifically those who are asymptomatic, are in self-quarantine Contact tracing has also started for all these cases,” Mkhize said in the statement.
