The 2023 census is expected to cost more than N400 billion, according to the National Population Commission.

Jick Lawrence, the head of the NPC Public Affairs Department in Plateau State, made this revelation on Monday in Jos during a one-day workshop on developing the skills of journalists covering the census effectively.

He disclosed that over N100 billion had already been spent on preparations for the April exercise.

Over N400 billion has been set aside for the 2023 census, he declared. Census is a very large and capital-intensive undertaking, and so far, almost N100 billion has been spent on preparations.

He continued by saying that portion of the money would be used to empower roughly 1.5 million Nigerians.

To facilitate the movement of workers and logistics, Lawrence said 56,000 vehicles would be rented, and roughly 800,000 PDAs would be purchased.
