Babatunji Wusu –
According to their press statements, the presidents of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, 65, and 90-year-old Paul Biya of Cameroon are dismissing their military leaders in an apparent effort to prevent the recent coups in Niger & Gabon that occurred during the past month.
According to a government statement cited by the Rwandan newspaper The New Times on Wednesday, Mr. Kagame dismissed over 200 military leaders in Kigali, including two four-star generals, James Kabarebe and Fred Ibingira, and two three-star generals, Charles Kayonga and Frank Mushyo Kamanzi.
Additionally, he retired 678 end-of-contract officers, 160 medically discharged employees, 6 junior officers, 86 senior non-commissioned officers, and 83 senior officers.
Mr. Biya is not leaving his control of Cameroon to chance either, as evidenced by the fact that he promptly shifted the officers in the army, air force, and navy.
