The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan has upheld the selection and installation of Oba Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso, overturning a prior judgment that had nullified his appointment. The court, led by Justice Yargata Nimpar, ruled in favor of Oba Olaoye on all 10 grounds of appeal, effectively affirming his legitimacy as the traditional ruler of Ogbomoso.
The Oyo State High Court, presided over by Justice K. A. Adedokun, had previously declared Oba Olaoye’s selection invalid on October 25, 2023, citing irregularities in the process that violated the 1958 Soun Chieftaincy Declaration. However, the Court of Appeal set aside this decision, reaffirming Oba Olaoye’s status as the rightful Soun of Ogbomoso.
