Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered the remand of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application.

Malami, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, will remain in custody until January 2, 2026, when the court is scheduled to hear arguments on his written application for bail.

The court rejected an oral bail request made by Malami’s lead counsel, Joseph Daudu, SAN, ruling that granting it would amount to an ambush on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, which is prosecuting the case.

Justice Nwite held that since a written bail application had already been filed and served on the EFCC, the interests of justice required that the anti-graft agency be given adequate time to respond, in line with due process.
