A policeman who was accused of shooting and killing a haulage driver in Ondo State has been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Facility in Akure, the state capital.

The policeman, Idowu Omosuyi who had faced the orderly-room trial of the Ondo Police Command over the incident was arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Akure on Monday on a one-count charge of murder.

It was alleged that the cop killed a haulage truck driver, Ado Saleh who was in transit through the state at Uso in Owo Local Government Area of the state over an argument of N50 bribe.

According to the Prosecution Officer, the accused committed the offence on December 2, 2019, at about 2 pm, along Uso-Owo road while on official duty.

The offence is contrary to section 316 and punishable under section 319 on the criminal laws of the Ondo State

The Prosecutor, Inspector Goodluck Uloh, informed the court about the motion on notice for the remand of the suspect in a correctional Service.

However, lawyer to the accused, Ademola Ikujuni opposed the prosecutor’s application and prayed the court to order that the defendant be returned to Police custody.

While turning down the application of the defendant’s Counsel, Magistrate Charity Adeyanju ordered that the accused be remanded in Olokuta, Correctional Facility till December 27, 2019, for the hearing of the motion.
