Portugal has also confirmed its first case of COVID-19 (coronavirus) from a 60-year-old man who had travelled back from northern Italy, which is the European hotspot for the virus.

The second suspected case was a 33-year-old man who had also returned from eastern Spain, where several COVID-19 cases have been confirmed.

The 33-year-old is now awaiting final test results after initial exams suggested he might be ill with the virus.

Portugal’s government had said it would extend screening measures to people arriving from Italy, in line with similar precautions already imposed on travelers from China.

Deaths from the deadly virus is said to be over 3,000 globally.

While over 89,000 people have been infected across 68 countries with China where the virus emerged in December having the lion’s share.
