Claims that factional Speaker of the state House of Assembly Edison Ehie was the target of an attempted murder have been refuted by the Rivers State Police Command.

In a Monday morning interview with Channels Television, the congressman revealed that he was the target of an assassination attempt by armed thugs and renegade police officers.

“Yes, indeed, it was crazy,” he replied. “However, my house is under heavy security, and they are conducting a security sweep of the entire compound.”

But at a Monday question-and-answer session with media in Port Harcourt, the state commissioner of police, Tunji Disu, characterized what transpired at Ehie’s home as an ordinary police patrol.

Disu stated that initial inquiries had not turned up any evidence of an attempt to kill the congressman, and he added that he had been contacted by the command to help the police with any additional information regarding the incident.

“The preliminary investigation we conducted this morning has not turned up any evidence of an attempted assassination,” he declared.

“All I knew was that cops were patrolling in convoys. It’s a regular occurrence, and we’ve tried desperately to get the leader to share whatever knowledge he may have with us so we can add it to what we already know.

“So far so good; there’s no need to be concerned. I beg him and everyone else to report any complaints, as my number will be made public. They ought to give me a call, and I’ll investigate right away. I haven’t heard anything like it up until now.
