The Edo State Police Command has pledged to support and protect protesters, as long as their demonstrations remain peaceful. During a press briefing on Wednesday evening, State Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye, emphasized that protesting is a fundamental right of citizens.
“We’ve met with some of the protest leaders and have reached an agreement that the protests must be peaceful,” CP Adegboye stated. “We will provide protection, but there will be no road blockages or violence.” He assured that residents who choose not to participate in the protests can go about their usual activities without disruption.
“Police will also offer support by providing sachets of water and sweets to the protesters. The protests will be confined to Kings Square, the designated venue,” he added. The Commissioner also warned that troublemakers would face strict consequences and should stay away from the protests.
