Tunji Wusu –
Governor Agbu Kefas has established a Special Committee to investigate the ongoing leadership dispute in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Taraba State.
A crisis broke out in the party shortly after the state’s March 28 governorship election as a result of Alhaji Abubakar Bawa’s selection as the party’s actual chairman.
When Kefas withdrew to run in the PDP governorship primary, which he ultimately won, the chairmanship seat became empty.
Alhaji Inuwa Bakari, the party’s deputy chairman who took over as acting chairman and guided the group to victory in the general election, went to the Federal High Court in Jalingo to contest Bawa’s election as party leader.
The Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Khalifa Bala Usman, rendered its decision in the matter and upheld the nomination of Bawa by ruling that the party’s National Working Committee has the authority to name a substantive party chairman.
Alhaji Bakari filed a notice of appeal with the Court of Appeal after being dissatisfied with the decision, and the case will be heard on July 10th.
Ambassador Idris Waziri is the chairman and Barr. Sam Adda is the secretary of the 14-person committee, according to a press statement issued by the governor’s principal press secretary, Yusuf Sands.
Senator Dahiru Bako, Rt. Hon. Simon Inusa Dogari, Dr. Alfred Yahaya Kobiba, Hon. Joseph Tahwan, Hon. Ibrahim Iliya Agabi, and Hon. Tina Musa are other committee members.
Ambassador Musa John, Hon. Kabiru Jalo, Hon. Regina Ngange, Hon. Mohammed Gwampo, Hon. Nasiru Boboji, and Rt Hon. Husseini Ibrahim are additional committee members.
Finding the reasons for the problems in the leadership squabble in the state chapter of the party is one of the committee’s mandates, and it will be established on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
The committee must also determine what is causing the dispute over the PDP’s leadership in Taraba State, provide recommendations for how to resolve it, and suggest ways to achieve enduring harmony and cooperation among the party’s leaders and people.
