Mrs. Esther Bassey, the chairman of the Cross River State’s Calabar South Local Government Area, has passed away.
According to reports, Bassey passed away following a meeting to discuss refining campaign strategy for the election on Saturday.
The late chairman—commonly known as the Queen of the South—was claimed to be in good health last night, according to an assistant of the deceased who commented on the situation.
She attended a number of meetings to be ready for tomorrow’s presidential election, the aide said. Yesterday evening, she held a few meetings.
The attendant said, “When she retired later in the evening, she showed no signs of weariness or sickness.”
About 4 am in Calabar, the former council leader apparently passed away in her sleep.
Bassey belonged to the ruling All Progressives Congress till her passing (APC)
