The Edo State pension law was recently revised by the recently-expired house of assembly to include speakers and deputy speakers as well as governors and deputy governors. The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has denounced this amendment, calling it anti-people and backwards-looking.

Yesterday in Benin City, Dr. Samson Isibor, chairman of the CRPP, referred to the 7th Assembly as colorless and accused it of not passing laws that would benefit the populace.

Despite the fact that the bill has not yet become law, Isibor promised to organize a demonstration if the governor approves it.

He said, “It is not appropriate. It is inconceivable that a governor and his allies would be distributing pension to themselves at this time when people are suffering and mourning.

We will urge the people of Edo State to demonstrate against the governor because it is uncalled for if the governor passes that measure into law.

“What has the governor accomplished for the people if he is now giving them new funding?

“People are bemoaning the lack of roads, lights, and medical facilities. What does he say to us? While other governors are assisting their populations, ours is not.

He is not a governor who listens. He never paid attention to their cries. The farmers are complaining that they cannot access their farms, and the inhabitants are unable to eat three square meals a day. Our governor, however, only pays attention to how to cut the cake and ensure that our money is taken.

We did not elect him to come take away our patrimony in this state, Isibor declared. If he signs that bill, we will demonstrate because it is anti-masses.
