The Nigeria Customs Service has declared that the export prohibition on processed wood, charcoal, and other allied products will be lifted conditionally.
In a circular dated June 8, 2023 and signed by Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, Musa MBA for the Comptroller General, the service confirmed that the administrative ban on the export of processed wood, charcoal, and other allied products has been lifted with immediate effect.
Part of the circular reads:
“I am directed to forward herewith a copy of the Federal Ministry of Finance letter Ref: No.F.17545/T/9 dated 5” Jun 23 on the above subject. “The letter, which is self-explanatory, confirms that the administrative ban imposed on the export of processed wood, charcoal, and other allied products is hereby lifted with immediate effect.”Threatened plants identified as endangered species (CITES listed), such as Rosewood (Pterocarpus erinaremain, are not permitted to be transferred.
“As a result of the foregoing, all requests for the exportation of processed wood, charcoal, and other allied products must be accompanied by a letter of approval from the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning.”
“Furthermore, in addition to strictly adhering to the provisions of the existing non-oil export guidelines, you are directed to work with Forest Officers at ports and borders to ensure proper identification and prevention of the exportation of prohibited wood products.”
