– Dangote criticized the EFCC visit as an embarrassing gesture with no substantive engagement.
– His company paid the highest taxes in Nigeria in 2023, exceeding the total of the banking sector.
– He emphasized the need for transparency and integrity in his operations, given the company’s prominence.

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has expressed his dissatisfaction regarding a visit from personnel of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to his refinery’s head office in Lagos. He characterized the visit as an attempt to create embarrassment, noting that EFCC agents arrived unexpectedly despite his prior communication with the agency’s leadership, assuring them he would visit their office.

“We were prepared to go to their office, and before we knew it, they were at ours. They didn’t engage with anyone or make any arrests; they simply came to create a scene,” Dangote stated.

In the same interview with Bloomberg TV, he highlighted that in 2023, Dangote Group paid more taxes to the federal government than the entire banking sector combined. He emphasized the importance of maintaining transparency and integrity in his company’s operations, stating, “Given our position in Nigeria, we must operate with 100% compliance.”

Dangote reassured that his company is committed to clean business practices, ensuring that any inquiries regarding their tax contributions or operations would be met with full transparency.
