Dangote Industries Limited and Sinoma International Engineering Co., Ltd. have signed an $800 million Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to expand the Dangote Cement Plant in Itori, Ogun State, doubling its production capacity from six million to 12 million metric tonnes per annum. The agreement marks another major investment in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector and strengthens both companies’ long-standing partnership.
The MOU was signed by Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, and Lin Zhong, Chairman of Sinoma. The Itori cement plant expansion will help Dangote Cement meet rising local demand while boosting exports across Africa. The investment is also expected to strengthen Nigeria’s position as one of the continent’s leading cement producers and increase its presence in regional and international markets.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dangote described the project as a key milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy and support for Nigeria’s industrialisation. He thanked President Bola Tinubu for creating a business-friendly environment and said the decision to expand the Itori cement plant was driven by Nigeria’s growing use of concrete for road construction and the company’s plan to supply cement to African countries in need. He added that the expansion aligns with the company’s Vision 2030 goal of producing 90 to 100 million metric tonnes annually.
“This $800 million investment represents another bold step in our commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base and reinforcing our leadership in Africa’s cement industry. The expansion of our Itori plant to 12 million from 6 million metric tons per annum will not only enhance our ability to meet growing domestic demand but also significantly increase our export capacity, thereby generating valuable foreign exchange for the country. This project reflects our unwavering confidence in the Nigerian economy and our determination to contribute meaningfully to economic growth, job creation, and regional trade across Africa.”
Lin Zhong welcomed the renewed collaboration, saying Sinoma would deploy its engineering expertise and advanced technology to deliver the project to the highest standards. He noted that the Itori cement plant expansion would improve Dangote Cement’s competitiveness, strengthen Nigeria’s manufacturing capacity, and support sustainable industrial development across Africa.
