American rapper Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., professionally known as DDG, has rejected what he described as “fake” Western media propaganda about Nigeria, insisting the country is far less dangerous than it is often portrayed.
The hip-hop star, who is currently on holiday in Lagos, said Nigeria is “nowhere near” as unsafe as the United States, countering long-standing narratives around insecurity.
In a video shared online, DDG argued that violence in America is more severe and widespread, particularly due to gun-related crimes and gangsterism.
“I honestly think America is the most dangerous country,” he said. “I don’t think Nigeria is as dangerous as America – nowhere near. No doubt, there is insecurity in Nigeria, but gun violence and gangsterism are not common here like they are in America.”
He encouraged foreigners to visit Nigeria and experience the country firsthand rather than rely on external portrayals.
“So, if anybody is thinking about coming to Nigeria, pull up,” he added.
DDG also addressed misconceptions about Nigerian food and water, revealing that he had been warned that local meals were unhealthy and advised to boil water before drinking.
Contrary to those claims, the rapper said his experience proved otherwise, praising Nigerian cuisine for its quality and health benefits. He singled out jollof rice as a standout, describing it as both healthy and enjoyable.
His comments have sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians applauding his remarks for challenging negative stereotypes and promoting a more balanced global perception of the country.
