The Ministry of Defence has officially transferred 20 newly purchased Armored Personnel Carriers to Defence Headquarters to enhance the professional capabilities of Nigerian Armed Forces personnel.
Dr Ibrahim Kana, Permanent Secretary of the MoD in Abuja, confirmed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
The Permanent Secretary presented the APCs to the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa.
During the transfer ceremony, Kana stressed that the program aims to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities and effectively confront growing security challenges.
He emphasized that this transfer is meant to improve the operational efficiency of the Nigerian Armed Forces, marking a significant step forward in the continuing efforts to bolster their readiness.
“These Armored Personnel Carriers will provide our troops with enhanced protection and mobility, enabling them to carry out their duties more effectively in safeguarding our nation’s sovereignty,” Kana said.
Similarly, the Chief of Defense Staff stressed the strategic importance of these variables in improving the Armed Forces’ ability to respond quickly and decisively to security threats.
“The acquisition of these Armored Personnel Carriers underscores our commitment to equipping our troops with the necessary resources to confront evolving security challenges.
“I commend the Ministry of Defence for its unwavering support and dedication to strengthening our national defence capabilities”, he said.
Musa expressed his gratitude for the acquisition of the APCs, adding that the handover ceremony represents a key milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to boost its defense capabilities and preserve national security.
He stated that the deployment of these 20 Armored Personnel Carriers has increased the Nigerian Armed Forces’ readiness to confront the challenges of today’s security environment while maintaining peace and stability across the country.
Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence, attended the ceremony.
