Media mogul and former presidential candidate Dele Momodu has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the once-dominant opposition as a hollow shell overtaken by anti-democratic elements.
In a candid resignation letter addressed to his ward leadership, Momodu expressed dismay over the PDP’s internal disintegration and departure from its core democratic principles. “Our party has been unarguably hijacked by anti-democratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight,” he wrote, stating that the party no longer reflects the ideals he once championed.
Calling his departure an “honourable exit,” Momodu said it was time to abandon what he referred to as the “carcass” of the PDP and align with a new political vision. He announced his support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), noting that many like-minded and disillusioned former PDP members are now gravitating toward the party.
His exit underscores the growing instability within the PDP, which has been plagued by internal rifts, high-profile defections, and persistent leadership struggles that have eroded its standing as Nigeria’s principal opposition force.
Momodu concluded his letter by thanking his local party leaders, stating, “I will forever treasure the kind support you gave me at all times.”
